Slave to the Wage
It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
Burn away
Run away
Placebo - Slave to the Wage (Black Market Music, 2000)
The older I get, the more I realise how constrained the actual adult life is in the current hypercapitalistic society. Everyone around, including me, are trapped in the rat race, working for a soulless CEOs of global corporations that only care about the share price going up and infinite growth to keep their shareholders happy regardless of any moral or ethical impact.
We have all accepted this as a fact, as a way the life is, as the way society works. Some folks are so far into this, they are worshipping corporations, they do not see how every one of them is evil by accumulating so much capital. Yes, some will tell you: "But corporation XYZ is giving huge amounts to this initiative, or that initiative...", but in the end those are spits in the ocean. On top of that there is this seemingly never ending competition of who has more, who can afford better car, better phone, better whatever. It is exhausting and has no end in sight.
While, I, similarly to Howard Beale, do not know what to tell you besides that things are bad - we need to unite, unite against the greed, free ourselves from the shackles of failing political systems, society norms forced down on us, world where small group of people holds all the power. World, where anti-humanism is winning, world where old greedy white people are blinded by the power that they are willing to sacrifice the future of our children just to stay somehow relevant. Only united humanity can win this class struggle.
There should never be a person walking on this Earth with billions in their pockets, such resources should be shared among the population. Poverty makes people do things they would not do under normal circumstances, it makes people fear, fear makes people submissive, not thinking clearly...
