Slow Burn

Not fitting in

Ever since I was a small kid I had this feeling of not fitting in with my peers, not going the "mainstream" route, not doing the things that everyone around me was doing at the time, not caving in to this French guy called Pierre Presseur.

Music used to be, and still is, the main way how to deal with the feelings of alienation, isolation and being different by letting my true self shine.

It was not until I've heard two songs that had very profound impact on me and my overall feelings about myself. Suddenly I have realised that it is completely fine to feel the way I feel, to be yourself, to be different. Thanks to these two songs (and many more that followed).

Agent Orange - Living in Darkness

Look at me now, I've got no reason to be
like everybody else - so dumb, so happy
I like things that bite
things that creep at night
Everybody's asking me
"What's it like down there?"
The concrete floor is cold
the walls are bare

I feel safest being alone
living in darkness
living in a world of my own

I'm so selfish
doing everything by myself
I feel so cold
I'm gonna live
to be a couple thousand years old
Ashes to ashes - dust to dust
I thought I knew somebody
that I could trust
now I'm not so sure

I feel safest being alone
living in darkness
living in a world of my own

One whole lifetime
I'm never gonna last unless I live until
dying is a thing of the past
and all these girls I know
out turning boys into men
I know I'm never going down again
never again

Eight Dayz - What's so strange about me

Where ever I going
They're calling me a stranger
They're calling me a liar
They're calling me a gypsy.

Take away the children
Take away the work
And savor my behavior,
Tell me by my smell.

Savor my behavior,
Tell me by my smell.

What so strange about me
I'll go the same with you
Just because I am far away
From home you say
I don't belong to you.

You want me to shine
On my culture the things
That I learned you want the total
Adaption the pride that I earned.

What remains is the question
I'd like to ask you,
As soon as I fit in,
Who are you gonna bring
The bad things to?

They think they have a reason so they're looking down on
us but the fact they're only using us as a bad excuse.
Savor our behavior, tell us by our smell.
Savor our behavior, tell us by our smell.

What so strange about me
I'll go the same with you
Just because I am far away from home
You say I don't belong to you.

You want me to shine on my culture
The things that I learned
You want the total adaption the pride
That I earned.

What remains is the question
I'd like to ask you,
As soon as I fit in,
Who are you gonna bring
The bad things to?
