Slow Burn

Kinds of Kindness

When commuting today via underground, I have seen a man with heavy visual impairment. As he has onboarded the train, desperately trying to get himself oriented a pair of hands has reached out and grabbed his. It was a small elderly Asian lady that never met this man. She has helped him to take a seat, offered help and even shared her water with him - pouring some of hers into his bottle. That is when it struck me - there are people out there, that rely on the kindness of others, that put full trust into strangers - not because they are naive, but because they must.

I think we have lost a lot of this. With media and algorithms feeding us with stories full of violence, assaults, and distrust in the fellow man. Everyone is now buried into their screen, people have stopped thinking about how their actions impact others...

This small episode gave me a hope though, a hope for a better world, where people still do care. Despite all the tech bros and technofascists trying to disgrace the humanity within us, it is still alive and well.
